TASTEFUL DEBUT ALBUM

Caroline Asplin: Smakfull debutplate

Straight out of nowhere comes a 26-year old Norwegian lady with tasteful, beautiful and laid back jazz-pop a la Sade, written and recorded in sunny Los Angeles.

The album will probably drown in the multitude of the same type of music from the same city, but that has nothing to do with Caroline Asplin's talent. Because that is absolutely present.

She has a shure hand of melodies, and manages by far to utilize to her advantage the incredibly competent and experienced Los Angeles musicians accompanying her. She also possesses a voice that by and large lives up to the relatively demanding style of music she has chosen to go for. Here and there (f.ex. in "Seagull") it weakens a tad. A new Radka Toneff she is not, at least not for the time being.

The lyrics are clearly inspired from the personal tragedy she suffered when a good friend disappeared in the USA. But Asplin balances this very well, and is actually able to communicate her loss and her despair without making it feel too personal.

All in all a tasteful debut from a voice that probably will stand out on the Norwegian (and International?) music scene in the future.
